PRE-ORDER - HO Rapido D&RGW Camp Car AX-22622

The Denver & Rio Grande Western had a seemingly unlimited amount of MOW equipment. Among them they had multiple cars specifically outfitted as camp cars for crews. We have chosen to partner with Rapido and their F30 project to bring you car AX-22615. This car could be seen all over the D&RGW network delivering wheels to keep the railroad running. 

This is more information than you probably care about but we're here to provide inane details. 

The Pennsylvania Railroad’s class F30A flatcars was one of their most prolific classes of flatcars with 1500 being built between 1933 and 1934. The PRR utilized a massive one-piece steel casting for these F30 flatcars, and that sturdy construction meant that many of these cars lasted an incredibly long time, often with a second life in work train (MOW) service.

The Rio Grande never had any F30 flatcars specifically however they did have near identical cast flatcars built by General Steel Castings. General Steel also provided F30 bodies to the Pennsy. For model purposes the cars are identical. A large portion of the Rio Grande's MOW flat car fleet was made up of riveted 53' AAR standard flatcars. Some of the fleet had cast frames, and some had welded frames. In this particular case AX-22615 was a cast frame flat car.
